Koda - in Maine!
Posted April 2025
Holy Fur, Baby! Check out this furbaby! Koda is the sweetest! He LOVES human attention; his favorite is to have his head and his chin scratched and he’s happy to sit with his head in your lap as long as you’ll keep doing that!
Koda is living with several dogs, a cat and chickens. He is interested in the cats, but not in an aggressive way. One cat swiped at him when he was being too personal and he totally backed off but made sure to give the cat a “what did you do that for?” look. He has totally ignored the chickens. He enjoys his dog friends, but enjoys his people the most!
Like many Great Pyrs, he can be stubborn – if he doesn’t want to do something he will just lay down. Getting in the car is one of those things he doesn’t want to do, so his foster family is working on that with him. At first the stairs was the same, he would just lay down rather than try them, but it only took a couple days for him to start heading right up those stairs because the people bed is up there. He sleeps on the floor in their room at night without any issue.
Koda is crated when the humans are not home and he eats in his crate. We do that with all our foster pups at first, but he also did show some desire not to share when one of the other dogs went by his crate while he was eating. On the other hand, Koda loves treats and has no problem sitting beside the other dogs to get them.
Like many northern breeds, Koda LOVES to be outside. He walks well on a leash, and he will go out in the fenced yard and take his sweet time coming back in. In his southern foster home they had a doggy door so Koda hasn’t figured out why all doors don’t open when he head butts them ; 0 )
Koda is a gentle giant who tips the scales at 113 lbs! He is 2-3 years old so he should be done growing – phew!
